The Rug

Here's the rug to go into the room box.  I took a picture from the internet and made it bigger in word.  Ironed white flannel to the shiny side of freezer paper and put through printer to get the rug image.  The flannel really soaks up the dye.  You can cut away a little of the paper from the sides to do some fraying for rug fringe.  I don't remove the freezer paper because it gives it some stability.  It isn't as bright as I would like but it will have to do.  It's an antique, right???  Try this trick you will be glad you did!!!

Next the lamp....  LJ

Kayla's Roombox

It is finished, yay and I am very pleased with it.  It still needs an area rug which I haven't figured out what I want yet.  I think it needs a floor lamp perhaps beside the hutch and sofa.  But mostly done and can be shared with you:

I made the NAME Day Hutch, wonderful Friend Barbara's pouting chair kit and also her sofa she taught us how to make. The shells on display cubes I purchased from Barbara at a show and also the ornate picture frame. I just love her amazing talent!  She really needs a web site to sell her remarkable things she crafts.  As soon as she has one I will let you all know. Other things I made from previous posts.  The art on either side of the hutch are reproductions of my granddaughter's art.  She is so talented and it is nice that they can go into her cousin's room box.

I love these battery operated lites!  Pic doesn't do it justice...

The floor is strips of oak veneer you iron on. It comes on a roll and you can buy at Home Depot. I put together the border from pics of seashells.  The paneling I painted vintage white to match the decor.  Wallpaper is scrapbook paper I had kicking around.

This is Kayla's  Gram (DIL's mom) who just loves the ocean also and they are having a Granddaughter to Gram afternoon chat over a cup of coffee and a snack. Don't you wish we could eavesdrop???

A pic of the famous Cape Neddick York Lighthouse. Jill Renee Marquis of www.marquisminiatures.com  gives these little business cards out at shows with neat pics of her art and they make perfect wall art. My friend Barbara gave me a picture of the clock which I varnished and surrounded with bits of smashed seashells.

A quilt given to me in a swap. Sorry I lost the maker's name so if she sees it I hope she will email me so I can give her credit for it.  It is so cute....

I won the table and repainted it to match the decor. The tray was made by my BFF Jean of A Romantic Country Home  and given to me as a gift.  Kayla and Gram I bought at Hobby Builders Supply along with the room box.

There you have it.  I love it and I am going to have a hard time parting with it, lol...

Mini Christmas Party

Last night was our mini Christmas party and of course it was fun as usual.  Mostly everyone was there.  I made a Christmas globe for the Santa Swap.  I was practicing on the knitting for the little people.  I want to learn to make it really small.   I can't seem to find needles small enough to knit the pieces so I made it more as an ornament than a miniature.

Now what I received was definitely a mini object!!!
So very tiny!!!  Thanks Barbara!

2 snow scenes for the evening.  One big and one mini....
The nice thing is these snowmen won't melt...

Today I ordered a room box from Hobby Builders Supply along with the Danielle and the Dot (she is the closest I can come up with to the other grandmother without knitting in her hand, lol) resin dolls.  My granddaughter asked me if I had time to make something for her cousin Kahlia for Christmas.  So I already have the name hutch and pouting chair  I just made and a sofa left over from a while ago so I will try to put together a LR scene looking out to the ocean as she loves the beach. Wish me luck and hope the order comes in soon, lol.....

New Project

Hobby Builders Supply had a house in their last catalog that you can pick up at Home Depot for $68.  If you go to Home Depot's web site you can order it on line and pick it up with a coupon off of $17, WOW, $51.00.....but it has to be ordered on line.  Even so if your Home Depots have any left; the $68 is still a great price.  It  has a milled roof and milled siding with the windows and the staircase.  I have seen like buys for $200.

Of course I need to finish the various projects I have laying around, lol....

QUARTER SCALE NAME DAY PROJECT

Remember the 1" NAME DAY Hutch.  Here is the 1/4 " scale hutch.  Any ideas how to make items small enough to put in it, lol....

I didnt finish the room box that came with the kit because again this will someday go into my John Craig House along with last years NAME DAY kitchen.

I love this little lamp and it wont be hard to duplicate. Yay!!! (that is if I can find all the individual pieces, lol...) Also I think I can duplicate these little chairs with some thought....  Can anyone picture polymer clay....  My goodness that little table gave me fits....

I put in a dime so you can see how small this stuff is.  These are all kits. Also at the 1" NAME DAY event a friend and fellow miniaturist gave me these little tiny books she made to put in my hutch....  They are so tiny and so cute and she is so talented.....

I added a pic of the roombox but didnt make it.  I won't need it for this project but I am thinking I can use it for a scary scene next year....

These also came with the QUARTER SCALE CONNECTION KIT and there again I will use some of it in my John Craig House.

Here is a pic of the quarter scale filled....

Till next time.  Mini Hugs and Blessings and may you all be safe.  LJ

Pouting Chair

In an age where children were seen but not heard, the lucky ones had their own chair to retreat to.  It makes for a  useful piece of furniture to be placed by the hearthside, perhaps under or near a shelf or in a child's room.  In my case it will be going beside the NAME ALCOVE. I have decided to make a parlor scene placed in a roombox with a window overlooking the ocean.  Somewhere in my sensibilities  I picture myself spending my summers at the ocean and this would be the room in which I would spend my rainy days, perhaps with my granddaughter sitting in her chair, not pouting mind you, but reading a lovely book or knitting a pretty scarf.  There would be tea and biscuits for the two of us sitting on the tea table and we would be spending a delightful afternoon together.

Here is the start to my pouting chair, a kit put together by a wonderful artist, Barbara, who is in our miniature club.  This was last nite's project at our mini meet. The fabric will be for the bottom cushion and a cushion against the back.

Can you picture this wonderful tranquil scene?

Till next time, mini hugs and happy miniaturing.  LJ

Alcove

The alcove is done and filled with some minis.  I am not sure if it will stay this way.  It  doesnt go with the decor in my 18th century brownstone so I will have to make a roombox for it.  What to do, what to do?.... Should I make a shabby chic living room with the alcove surrounding a window overlooking the ocean.  I still have a sofa left that went with the chair I put in my granddaughters art studio and I am making a wooden country chair at the dollhouse club soon which should go nicely. Or a quilt shop with the shelves filled with sewing items and fabric bolts,  I have been saving up items for that also. Maybe a antique shop with some of these same items.  Do you have some ideas?  Let me know what you think?

Till next time.  Hugs, LJ

minis for alcove

Today I made some books and a candy dish.

Perhaps these should go in my upcoming witch house. We will try them in the alcove first.

This was a button

I glued a jewelry finding on the bottom.

I love this button!!! Wish I could find more of them. It was in my mom's button box.

NAME DAY ALCOVE & THINGS

Name Day was held on Oct. 6th.  It was such a fun day.  I got to see my friend Jean (A Romantic Country Home) and lots of people I havent seen in a while.  Everyone brought food and we ate till we dropped.  Everyone received a door prize and some of us received 2 as so many people made things or donated something.

Things I won:

Things I bought:

Things given to me:
(These are 1/4 scale and I am also going to make the 1/4 scale alcove and these books will be perfect)....

Things that came with kit:

The project this year was an alcove.  Here is my rendition:

Now if I can find my NAME swap stuff from a few weeks ago and make a few items and decide which purchased items I will use;  these shelves will be filled soon and perhaps (maybe if there is room, lol) put in the big dollhouse.  Stay tuned for before and after.....
Till next time.  LJ

Mini Meet Nite

Last night we made a garden trowel and scratcher set.  It was great fun.  The fellow teaching this great class taught us how to use a small blow torch.  We soldered together little tiny pieces of metal to form our garden pieces.

The gal making this was working on her trowel

My set which needs some sanding from the fire

Not much clean up on this set.

Great class, great fun....

Our Hearts Are With Their Families

This week, we mourn the four Americans who were killed in the horrific attack in Benghazi on Tuesday.  These Americans, including Ambassador Christopher Stevens, worked tirelessly to promote U.S. interests and help the Libyan people navigate the difficult transition to democracy.  They gave their lives in service of our nation and the cause of democracy.  Our thoughts and prayers are with their families and friends.

The events of the past few days serve as a grim reminder that the U.S. and our allies must remain vigilant as we seek to promote the cause of liberty against the forces of violence and extremism.

Toy Box

Back in May I went to a NAME Fun Day and lucked out an won a toy box kit.  The kit is from   http://www.dragonflyintl.com

We met the other nite for a mini meeting and we all brought something to do.
This was my project....

It was too easy, lol...  Fit together like a glove.  I used colored pens to color it and after it was together vanished it.

This will look super in my Toy Store....

Hope you all are enjoying your summer.

Out of the box

Well the most I have done on the JC House is to get it out of the box.  Maybe by next post I will have something done to show.

Instead I will show you a shower gift that one of my mini gals is taking to her friend who is getting married.....

Now this is a joke gift so I hope ya all have a sense of humor, lol....
